What is a vasectomy?
A vasectomy is a safe permanent outpatient surgical procedure for men. It consists of cutting or blocking the vas deferens to prevent the sperm from reaching the semen and causing a pregnancy, without affecting hormonal production or sexual performance.
It is a highly effective contraception method but does not protect against sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). After the operation, a semen analysis is required to confirm the absence of sperm.
This procedure is performed by a urologist and is considered to be a definitive option for male family planning.
Does Adeslas cover the vasectomy?
Adeslas covers the vasectomy in the healthcare and refund policies, within the family planning section.
This coverage includes:
- Control of the procedure with birth control pills.
- Implantation and supervision of the IUD (including the cost of the device).
- Tubal ligature and vasectomy.
- Sterility or infertility diagnostic studies (serological, hormonal, karyotype, hysterosalpingograms in women and spermiograms in men).
Important:
- Abortions, embryo reductions, sterility and infertility treatments and surgery to revert tubal ligation and vasectomies are expressly excluded.
- Outpatient products (Go, Basic, etc.) do not include vasectomies, since it is a surgical procedure.
Conditions and requirements
- Policy required: healthcare assistance and refund.
- Qualifying period: 6 months in individual policies.
- Specialist: the operation is performed by urologists.
- Subsequent test: a semen analysis is required to confirm the absence of sperm.
